In the week ending September 8, the advance figure for seasonally adjusted initial claims was 382,000, an increase of 15,000 from the previous week's revised figure of 367,000 but down 9.3% from the same week a year ago. The 4-week moving average was 375,000, an increase of 3,250 from the previous week's revised average of 371,750. The advance seasonally adjusted insured unemployment rate was 2.6 percent for the week ending September 1, unchanged from the prior week's unrevised rate.The highest insured unemployment rates in the week ending August 25 were in Puerto Rico (4.0), New Jersey (3.8), Pennsylvania (3.8), Alaska (3.6), Connecticut (3.6), Virgin Islands (3.5), California (3.3), New York (3.1), Rhode Island (3.1), and Oregon (2.9). The largest increases in initial claims for the week ending September 1 were in Pennsylvania (+1,639), Nevada (+1,351), Michigan (+915), Texas (+804), and Iowa (+691), while the largest decreases were in Florida (-1,923), North Carolina (-1,566), Georgia (-1,199), Puerto Rico (-1,101), and New Jersey (-789).
