• U.S. Worker Purchasing Power Down 0.7% in 12 Months Ended – Octoberr 2012


Real average hourly earnings for all employees fell 0.2 percent from September to October, seasonally. Average hourly earnings were about unchanged, while the Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers (CPI-U) rose 0.1 percent.

Month: Real average weekly earnings fell 0.2 percent over the month due to the decrease in real average hourly earnings combined with an unchanged average workweek. Since reaching a peak in October 2010, real average weekly earnings has fallen 1.8 percent.

12 Months: Real average hourly earnings fell 0.7 percent, seasonally adjusted, from October 2011 to October 2012. The decrease in real average hourly earnings, combined with an unchanged average workweek, resulted in a 0.6 percent decrease in real average weekly earnings over this period.
