Nationally, employers took 1,125 mass layoff actions in March involving 117,817 workers, not seasonally adjusted, as measured by new filings for unemployment insurance benefits during the month. Each mass layoff involved at least 50 workers from a single employer. Mass layoff events in March increased by 230 from February, while the number of associated initial claims increased by 32,733. In the northeast [New Jersey and Pennsylvania north to Maine] employers took 198 mass layoff actions in March involving 18,520 workers, not seasonally adjusted.
