• U.S. Job Openings & Hires — October 2014


Job Openings: The number of job openings (not seasonally adjusted) increased over the 12 months ending in October for total nonfarm and total private, and was little changed for government. The job openings level increased over the year for many industries, including both professional and business services and accommodation and food services. The number of openings also increased over the year in all four regions.

Hires: Over the 12 months ending in October, the number of hires (not seasonally adjusted) increased for total nonfarm and total private, and was little changed for government. The hires level increased over the year in many industries, including retail trade and professional and business services. The number of hires increased in the Midwest and South regions.

• U.S. Job Openings, Hires, Turnover – January 2014


The number of job openings (not seasonally adjusted) increased over the year for total nonfarm and total private but decreased for government. Over the year, the number of job openings increased in several industries while it decreased in real estate and rental and leasing and in federal government.

Over the 12 months ending in January, the number of hires (not seasonally adjusted) changed little for total nonfarm, total private, and government. Hires levels rose over the year in professional and business services and in educational services.

• U.S. Job Openings, Hires, & Labor Turnover – December 2013


The number of job openings (not seasonally adjusted) increased over the year for total nonfarm and total private and was little changed for government.

Over the year, the number of job openings increased in mining and logging; nondurable goods manufacturing; wholesale trade; professional and business services; and accommodation and food services.

The job openings level decreased in healthcare and social assistance as well as federal government.

There were 4.0 million job openings on the last business day of November, little changed from October.

The hires rate (3.3 percent) and separations rate (3.1 percent) were unchanged in November.

• U.S. Job Openings and Hires – October 2013


Job Openings: There were 4.204 million jobs open in the U.S. on the last business day of October 2013 [nsa]. This is up 7.6% from 3.906 million openings in the prior month and up 7.9% from 3.896 in the same month a year ago.

Hires: U.S. employers hired 4.746 million workers in October, down 1.6% from the previous month but up 5.3% from the same month a year ago.

• U.S. Job Openings and Hires – September 2013


There were 3.95 million job openings in September, little changed from August. The number of job openings decreased in arts, entertainment, and recreation and was little changed in all remaining industries and in all four regions.

The number of job openings (NSA) increased over the year for total nonfarm and total private, and was little changed in government. Over the year, the number of job openings increased in several industries but decreased in nondurable goods manufacturing and federal government. The Midwest region experienced an increase in job openings over the 12 months ending in September.

There were 3.9 million job openings [sa] on the last business day of August, little changed from July.

The hires rate (3.3 percent) and separations [turnover] rate (3.2 percent) also were little changed in August [sa].
