Private wages and salaries increased $27.8 billion in May, compared with an increase of $17.9 billion in April.
Goods-producing industries' payrolls increased $7.4 billion, in contrast to a decrease of $1.5 billion; manufacturing payrolls increased $5.0 billion, in contrast to a decrease of $2.8 billion. Services-producing industries' payrolls increased $20.4 billion, compared with an increase of $19.3 billion.
