• U.S. Employment Situation – May 2013

(Unemployment, wages, hours of work)

Total nonfarm payroll employment increased by 175,000 in May, and the unemployment rate was essentially unchanged at 7.6 percent.

Alternative Rate = Official unemployment rate plus all persons marginally attached to the labor force, plus total employed part time for economic reasons, as a percent of the civilian labor force.

Employment rose in professional and business services, food services and drinking places, and retail trade.
