• U.S. Metropolitan Area Employment and Unemployment — December 2015

Unemployment rates were lower in December than a year earlier in 296 of the 387 metropolitan areas, higher in 79 areas, and unchanged in 12 areas. Twenty-five areas had jobless rates of less than 3.0 percent, and 12 areas had rates of at least 10.0 percent.

Nonfarm payroll employment increased over the year in 280 metropolitan areas, decreased in 94 areas, and was unchanged in 13 areas.

Unemployment rates were lower in November than a year earlier in 322 of the 387 metropolitan areas, higher in 54 areas, and unchanged in 11 areas. Twenty-six areas had jobless rates of less than 3.0 percent, and six areas had rates of at least 10.0 percent. Nonfarm payroll

Employment: In November, 294 metropolitan areas had over-the-year increases in nonfarm payroll employment, 82 had decreases, and 11 had no change.

Nonfarm payroll employment increased over the year in 300 metropolitan areas, decreased in 78 areas, and was unchanged in 9 areas.

• U.S. Metropolitan Area Employment and Unemployment — September 2015

• Unemployment rates were lower in September than a year earlier in 353 of the 387 metropolitan areas, higher in 25 areas, and unchanged in 9 areas. Nineteen areas had jobless rates of less than 3.0 percent, and two areas had rates of at least 10.0 percent.

• Nonfarm payroll employment increased over the year in 302 metropolitan areas, decreased in 76 areas, and was unchanged in 9 areas.

• The national unemployment rate in September was 4.9 percent, not seasonally adjusted, down from 5.7 percent a year earlier.

• U.S. Metropolitan Area Employment and Unemployment — August 2015

Unemployment rates were lower in August than a year earlier in 365 of the 387 metropolitan areas, higher in 16 areas, and unchanged in 6 areas. Eleven areas had jobless rates of less than 3.0 percent and three areas had rates of at least 10.0 percent.

Employment: In August, 303 metropolitan areas had over-the-year increases in nonfarm payroll employment, 71 had decreases, and 13 had no change. The largest over-the-year employment increases occurred in New York-Newark-Jersey City, N.Y.-N.J.-Pa. (+161,800), Los Angeles-Long Beach-Anaheim, Calif. (+124,800), and Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington, Texas (+103,500). The largest over-the-year percentage gain in employment occurred in Provo-Orem, Utah (+6.2 percent), followed by San Jose-Sunnyvale-Santa Clara, Calif. (+5.5 percent), and Columbus, Ind., Elkhart-Goshen, Ind., and Greeley, Colo. (+4.5 percent each).

• U.S. Metropolitan Area Employment And Unemployment — May 2015


Unemployment rates were lower in May than a year earlier in 346 of the 387 metropolitan areas, higher in 36 areas, and unchanged in 5 areas. Twelve areas had jobless rates of less than 3.0 percent and nine areas had rates of at least 10.0 percent. .

319 metropolitan areas had over-the-year increases in nonfarm payroll employment, 63 had decreases, and 5 had no change. The largest over-the-year employment increases occurred in Los Angeles-Long Beach-Anaheim, Calif. (+151,200), New York-Newark-Jersey City, N.Y.-N.J.-Pa. (+139,800), and Dallas- Fort Worth-Arlington, Texas (+110,500). The largest over-the-year percentage gain in employment occurred in Provo-Orem, Utah (+6.7 percent), followed by Odessa, Texas (+6.1 percent), and Lake Charles, La., and Midland, Texas (+6.0 percent each).

Unemployment rates were lower in April than a year earlier in 344 of the 387 metropolitan areas, higher in 36 areas, and unchanged in 7 areas. Eleven areas had jobless rates of less than 3.0 percent and 11 areas had rates of at least 10.0 percent.

330 metropolitan areas had over-the-year increases in nonfarm payroll employment, 46 had decreases, and 11 had no change. The largest over-the-year employment increases occurred in Los Angeles-Long Beach- Anaheim, Calif. (+160,100), New York-Newark-Jersey City, N.Y.-N.J.-Pa. (+135,900), and Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington, Texas (+125,800). The largest over-the-year percentage gain in employment occurred in Lake Charles, La. (+7.8 percent), followed by Odessa, Texas, and Provo-Orem, Utah (+6.4 percent each).

• U.S. Major Metro Area Employment and Unemployment — February 2015


Unemployment: Unemployment rates were lower in February than a year earlier in 366 of the 387 metropolitan areas, higher in 18 areas, and unchanged in 3 areas, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today. Three areas had jobless rates of less than 3.0 percent and 16 areas had rates of at least 10.0 percent. Nonfarm payroll employment increased over the year in 355 metropolitan areas, decreased in 29 areas, and was unchanged in 3 areas.

Employment: In February, 355 metropolitan areas had over-the-year increases in nonfarm payroll employment, 29 had decreases, and 3 had no change. The largest over-the-year employment increases occurred in New York-Newark-Jersey City, N.Y.-N.J.-Pa. (+162,300), Los Angeles-Long Beach-Anaheim, Calif. (+152,400), and Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington, Texas (+132,400). The largest over-the-year percentage gain in employment occurred in Midland, Texas (+8.8 percent), followed by Ocean City, N.J. (+8.6 percent), and Lake Charles, La. (+8.5 percent).

The largest over-the-year decreases in employment occurred in Gulfport-Biloxi-Pascagoula, Miss. (-2,600), Atlantic City-Hammonton, N.J. (-1,300), and Duluth, Minn.-Wis. (-1,000). The largest over-the-year percentage decreases in employment occurred in Great Falls, Mont. (-2.3 percent), Gulfport-Biloxi-Pascagoula, Miss. (-1.7 percent), and Florence-Muscle Shoals, Ala.

Unemployment: Unemployment rates were lower in November than a year earlier in 341 of the 372 metropolitan areas, higher in 27 areas, and unchanged in 4 areas. Twelve areas had jobless rates of at least 10.0 percent and 147 areas had rates of less than 5.0 percent.

Employment: Nonfarm payroll employment increased over the year in 313 metropolitan areas, decreased in 55 areas, and was unchanged in 4 areas. The national unemployment rate in November was 5.5 percent, not seasonally adjusted, down from 6.6 percent a year earlier.
