Productivity: Nonfarm business sector labor productivity increased at a 2.3 percent annual rate during the third quarter of 2014, as output increased 4.9 percent and hours worked increased 2.5 percent. (All quarterly percent changes in this release are seasonally adjusted annual rates.) From the third quarter of 2013 to the third quarter of 2014, productivity rose 1.0 percent as output and hours worked increased 3.1 percent and 2.1 percent, respectively. Labor Costs: Unit labor costs in the nonfarm business sector fell 1.0 percent in the third quarter of 2014, as a 1.3 percent increase in hourly compensation was smaller than the 2.3 percent gain in productivity.
