In the week ending April 12, the advance figure for seasonally adjusted initial claims was 304,000, an increase of 2,000 from the previous week's revised level. The previous week's level was revised up by 2,000 from 300,000 to 302,000. The 4-week moving average was 312,000, a decrease of 4,750 from the previous week's revised average. This is the lowest level for this average since October 6, 2007 when it was 302,000. The advance seasonally adjusted insured unemployment rate was 2.1 percent for the week ending April 5, unchanged from the previous week's unrevised rate of 2.1 percent. The highest insured unemployment rates in the week ending March 29 were in Alaska (4.9), Connecticut (3.5), Pennsylvania (3.5), New Jersey (3.4), Rhode Island (3.4), California (3.2), Puerto Rico (3.2), Illinois (3.1), Massachusetts (3.1), and Wisconsin (3.1). The largest increases in initial claims for the week ending April 5 were in Michigan (+4,285), Pennsylvania (+2,335), New Jersey (+1,630), Florida (+1,624), and Georgia (+1,453), while the largest decreases were in California (-13,892), Iowa (-1,266), Kentucky (-699), Tennessee (-582), and Idaho (-383).
